\nSaturday, 4 October 2025\u2014 The Malaysian Public Library, Research and
\nDevelopment Centre (MPLRDC), in partnership with HELP University, is proud to
\nhost a grand Festival of 1,000 Lanterns \u2013 Mid-Autumn Celebration<\/b>. <\/p>\n
This evening of culture, light, and community will feature captivating
\nperformances, interactive traditional activities, and a magical lantern
\nprocession that brings together children, families, and neighbours in a shared
\nexpression of heritage and joy. This is the third Mid-Autumn Festival organised
\nby the MPLRDC in HELP University\u2019s Subang 2 campus. <\/p>\n

\nDamansara, PJ, Selangor is the guest of honour at the Mid-Autumn Celebrations. <\/p>\n
The Festival
\nwill include highlights such as the Dragon Dance<\/b>, the 24 Festive Drum
\nPerformance<\/b> by SMJK Chung Hwa Klang, the Seafield School Band<\/b>,
\ncultural song presentations, an erhu performance, lantern-making<\/b> and riddle-guessing
\ncompetitions<\/b>, culminating in a procession of 1,000 lanterns<\/b>. A
\nbuffet dinner will also be served as part of the evening\u2019s festivities.<\/p>\n
The
\nMid-Autumn Festival, with a history of over 1,000 years, is one of China\u2019s most
\nbeloved cultural traditions. It is a time for family reunion, thanksgiving, and
\nreflection. The full moon, round and bright, symbolises harmony and
\ncompleteness, while the sharing of mooncakes<\/b> represents unity, good
\nfortune, and togetherness.<\/p>\n
The festival
\nis also steeped in folklore, including the legend of Chang\u2019e, the Moon
\nGoddess<\/b>, who is said to live on the moon with the Jade Rabbit. These
\nstories, passed down through generations, continue to inspire wonder and keep
\ncultural heritage alive for both young and old.<\/p>\n
Lanterns are
\nanother central symbol of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Each lantern represents hope
\nand warmth, and when joined together, they create a magnificent vision of unity
\nand light. The procession of 1,000 lanterns will embody this spirit of
\ntogetherness.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s
\nFestival carries a special meaning, as it extends joy to underprivileged
\nchildren from BRDB-Rotary Children\u2019s Residence, Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras,
\nand Al-Aliyah International School (AIS) <\/b>who will join the celebration.
\nTheir participation reflects the Festival\u2019s deeper purpose \u2014 to share light,
\nwarmth, and inclusion with those who need it most. Lanterns will be sold at the
\nevent to raise money for the children\u2019s homes, as well as for the Malaysian
\nPublic Library Research and Development Centre. <\/b><\/p>\n
In her
\nwelcome address, Datin Chan Kam Yoke, Chairman of the Malaysian Public
\nLibrary Research and Development Centre<\/b>, says: \u201cThe Festival of 1,000
\nLanterns is more than a celebration \u2013 it is a reflection of our community\u2019s
\nspirit. Just as each lantern shines brightly on its own, when they come
\ntogether they create something truly spectacular. Tonight, we celebrate not
\njust culture and tradition, but also unity, joy, and the importance of reaching
