In conjunction with the global celebration of World
\nTourism Day (WTD) 2025<\/b>, students from the TRM223 – Tourism Operations<\/b>
\nclass organised a special one-day trip to the historic city of Melaka. This
\neducational and commemorative journey is a key component of their module
\nrequirement and aligns perfectly with Melaka’s role as the official host city
\nfor this year’s international WTD events.<\/p>\n
The 2025 World Tourism Day theme, \u201cTourism and
\nSustainable Transformation,\u201d<\/b> serves as the inspiration for this trip,
\nemphasising the vital role of the tourism sector in driving positive change,
\nfostering resilience, and promoting inclusivity.<\/p>\n
A Focus on Industry and Education<\/b><\/p>\n
This exclusive trip is designed to bridge the gap between
\nacademic learning and real-world industry experience. A total of 25
\nparticipants<\/b> joined the itinerary, comprising students from the School
\nof Hospitality and Tourism<\/b> and esteemed PATA Members<\/b>. This mix of
\naspiring professionals and seasoned industry experts will provide a rich
\nenvironment for networking and knowledge exchange.<\/p>\n
The full-day itinerary immersed participants in Melaka’s
\nvibrant cultural and historical tapestry. On the day, the group focused on
\nexperiencing Melaka’s unique position as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which
\nperfectly showcased the integration of sustainability and cultural preservation
\nin tourism.<\/p>\n
The group started the trip with a flavourful day of learning
\nat the Melaka International Halal Festival (MIHF ’25)! Soaking up the culture
\nand seeing the global side of the halal industry with the best crew. Who doesn\u2019t
\nlove educational trips that involve food?<\/p>\n
Next, the SHT team and students enjoyed a scenic cruise
\nalong the historic Melaka River, demonstrating how responsible development has
\ntransformed the waterway into a key tourism asset.<\/p>\n
After a relaxing cruise, the team celebrated World Tourism
\nDay 2025 in the heart of history \u2014 Malacca! From heritage streets to vibrant
\ncultures, every corner tells a story. A guided walk through the iconic Red
\nSquare (Dutch Square), the ruins of St. Paul’s Church, and stepping back in
\ntime to the remnants of the A Famosa fortress.<\/p>\n
Saving the best for last, the team had the most exciting and
\nexclusive experience at the Encore Melaka, which is the largest theatre in Southeast
\nAsia featuring a 360\u00b0 rotating auditorium, where they enjoyed an amazing show
\nplus a special arranged backstage tour that\u2019s not open to the public. <\/p>\n
World Tourism Day 2025 in Melaka<\/b><\/p>\n
Melaka’s selection as the host for World Tourism Day and the
\nconcurrent 7th World Tourism Conference<\/b> highlighted Malaysia’s
\ncommitment to building a more sustainable and resilient global tourism sector.
\nThe TRM223 class trip was a practical showcase of how future tourism operators
\nare engaging with global themes right here at home.<\/p>\n
The students eagerly participated in this opportunity to
\nlearn from the best in the industry and contribute to the local celebration of
